Your name Your address Your phone number Your email Date Their name Their address Dear Thousands of dogs suffer and die every year in the greyhound racing industry. It’s time to ban this cruelty. I am writing to ask for your support for a ban on greyhound racing in this country. Greyhounds are bred solely for the gambling industry. Puppies not deemed fast enough are disposed of by breeders and those who go on to race are forced into lives of isolation in kennels, injuries on the track and no guarantee of a long life after they stop winning. It is all about the money. Racing goes ahead in all weathers and temperatures, sub zero and 34 degrees, during firework displays and thunderstorms. The Greyhound Board of Great Britain (GBGB) has admitted to killing over 1,000 dogs in 2017 due to injuries sustained on the tracks. GBGB also announced that the total number of dogs that injured themselves across the UK in 2017 whilst racing was 4,837. This is not entertainment, it’s violence and cruelty. Rescue centres across the country cannot take in the thousands of dogs that the industry discards every year. Many are abandoned, others sent to China for breeding and certain slaughter, a few may be re-homed. Owners and trainers claim the dogs love to race. The truth is most greyhounds love to run, which is completely different to being packed into a van 3 times a week to travel to a track, forced into the traps and made to race around tight bends for 30 seconds and back to live in misery in kennels. Greyhounds are dogs, not machines to be exploited by humans for profit and entertainment. Please support a ban on greyhound racing. It is an outdated cruel industry that has no place in a civilised country. The UK claims to have a love of animals, treating dogs like this is unacceptable. I look forward to hearing from you on this matter. Thank you. Your Name
